How do virtual appointments work?
For virtual appointments you will need an electronic device (that could be anything from a phone to a computer to an ipad etc.) with a camera. You will also need to be in a confidential space with minimal disruptions from others. We will being using a program called Simple Practice. You should receive an automatic email from our system the day before with the link via email. The system also sends the link 10-15 minutes prior to the appointment time to your email and phone. When you click on that link, it should direct you immediately to the virtual waiting room. This platform works on the latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge on desktops/laptops. If using a mobile device though, there is a free app for iOS or Android you will need to download. That is called "Telehealth by SimplePractice." If any time a link is not auto sent to you, please reach out and I will manually send it your way.
What can I expect my first appointment to be like?
There is not a one size fits all approach! Every person who seeks counseling has their own needs. The first appointment (and all the appointments that follow) are individualized to the person in front of me. The first appointment will go over the legal aspects and logistics of counseling treatment as well as the benefits of the therapeutic process. We will likely converse about personal history (at your comfort level) and discuss your desired goals for therapy. Not sure of your exact goals? That is also okay! That is something we will explore in depth as we get to know each other better and sessions progress. You may have seen the Questionnaire included in your paperwork. That questionnaire allows me an opportunity to get to know you a little bit prior to our first session together. It helps me prepare for our first meeting which is certainly helpful and appreciated. Be sure to check it out if you have not already done so!
